Pervez Musharraf is a retired Pakistani military officer who served as the President of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008. He was born in Delhi, India in August 11, 1943 and later moved to Pakistan after the partition of India in 1947.
Musharraf joined the Pakistan Military Academy in 1961 and rose through the ranks to become the Chief of Army Staff in 1998. In 1999, he led a successful military coup against the elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, taking control of the country as the Chief Executive. In 2001, he declared himself as the President of Pakistan and held the position until 2008.

In 2008, Musharraf was forced to resign as President and went into self-imposed exile in Dubai.
